GIG Minutes - General Meeting September 4, 2019

The meeting was called to order by President, Janet Sanders at 12:47 PM.

 Shotgun winners were announced by Gary Dennis

 A motion was made to approve the minutes of the meeting from August 7, 2019, Cheryl Kilburn made the motion and Jan Hixson seconded. Motion passed.

 Kathy Clinton gave the treasurer’s report and we have 89 members and she shared the current account balance.

 Sunshine and Welfare:  Janet asked for any September birthday ladies to please stand and be recognized.

 Mary Decker presented birdie pins to the latest winners.

 Bettie LeCrone announced the closest to the pin winners: Hole # 5 Edie Czajkowski; Hole # 8 Jan Secord; Hole # 14 Cheryl Kilburn and no winner on hole #11  

Janet reminded everyone that we play ready golf, so if you can’t see the group in front of you, you need to speed up play.  

Old Business:  At the August meeting Kelly Shelton brought up for discussion to extend our season until the end of November. Checking with Steve he doesn’t have a problem with us doing that. A motion to vote on this was made to extend the actually voting until the end of the season luncheon as more ladies would be in attendance to finish discussing and bring it to a vote. Linda Yopp made the motion and was seconded by Gwen Armstrong.

A motion was made by Linda Yopp and seconded by Mollie Manning, motion passed and the board was elected as presented with no other nominations from the floor.

Peggy Rook reminded everyone about the end of the season luncheon and we need at least 60 people the deadline to sign up is October 23, 2019 so you still have about seven (7) weeks to sign up. The envelope will be with the books weekly. Peggy also mentioned the Challenge with Firewheel on  Oct 14 and 16th and we need 12 players and several substitutes, so please sign up. 

New Business: Sametta Turrentine made the announcement of several exchanges that are coming up.

GIG Minutes - General Meeting August 7, 2019

The meeting was called to order by President, Janet Sanders at 12:46 PM.

 

Minutes from July 3, 2019 General Meeting:  Janet called for a motion to approve the minutes as distributed and posted on the GIG website.  Molly Manning made the motion to approve and Nancy Sisler seconded the motion.  The minutes were approved. 

Free Lunch Winners:  Janet announced our August winners were Bobbie Milne and Linda Long.

Treasurer’s Report:  Kathy Clinton announced that our GIG membership is now at 89. Additionally, she shared our current account balance.

August Sunshine Report and Birthdays:  Mary Decker provided an update on Dee Hedin’s recovery as did Kathy Clinton regarding Kim Farrer and Paula Crump’s recoveries.  Janet volunteered to reach out to Francis Escobar regarding her current condition.

Sue Trizila asked all with August Birthdays to stand and be recognized.  She then asked Ina Guttormson to remain standing as the membership celebrated her 90th birthday with a stack of Birthday Cards, Cake and a Gift.

2020 Board Nomination Committee Report:  Jan Secord read the list of current nominees.  She then reminded everyone that nominations are still open and to advise her if they have any interest in serving on the Board next year.   The proposed slate of officers is:

Motions:  A motion was made by Jan Secord to require the GIG 1st Vice President to assume role of President in the following year.  The motion was seconded by Carol Resnick.  Janet called for a vote by the membership.  It did not pass.

New Business:  Kelly Shelton proposed we extend the GIG normal season through November and move the post season luncheon to December.  The Board will discuss and advise next steps.

End of Year Luncheon:  Peggy Rook reminded membership that the event will take place on November 6, 2019 from 11-2 PM at Canyon Creek Country Club.  Janet asked that all members reach out to area businesses to get gift cards to give away at luncheon.  Contact her for letters to distribute.  Bettie will start collection of gifts for the luncheon next Wednesday.

Firewheel Challenge and TWAGA:  Peggy Rook gave an update on these events and asked that you contact her if you wish to play in either event:

·         Firewheel Challenge will be on October 14 and 16

·         TWAGA will be on October 15 and 16

Trinity Presbyterian Church Charity Event at WestRidge Golf Course:  Jan Secord presented the opportunity to play in their September 30, 2019 event.  Contact  Jan for more information or to sign-up for the event.

GIG Minutes - General Meeting July 3, 2019

The meeting was called to order by President, Janet Sanders at 12:55 PM

 Gary announced the shotgun winners:

Motion was made to approve the minutes as emailed by Cheryl Kilburn moved and Jan Secord seconded the motion. Motion passed.

 Treasurers Report: 88 members, 2 out on medical leave and the checkbook balance was given

 Sunshine and Welfare: July birthdays stood for recognition.  A plant was sent to Bonnie Long.

Birdie Pins were given out.

Qualifications for the club championship were reduced due to excessive rain in the spring from 10 games to 5 games.

Jan Secord, chairman of the nominating committee announced the potential nominees for 2020 officers, with nominations still being open if you would like to consider being an officer. Nominations will be voted on at the September meeting and nominations from the floor will be accepted.  The proposed slate of officers are:

Announcements:

Billie Kendrick told of the next exchange to be held at Hurricane Creek on Tuesday, July 16, 2019. Cost is $50.00 including a continental breakfast and lunch and prizes. Start time is 8:30 shotgun and will have 2 drives per person. Billie also said that the feeder roads are no longer two way traffic. Go to the exit 49 (one after the Love’s gas station) turn left and go back over the bridge and come south on the feeder road to the entrance of Hurricane Creek. Exiting the course is the same as it always has been. She passed around a sign-up sheet and said to contact her or Sammetta Turrentine if interested in playing.

Janet has letters for members to take to businesses to solicit door prizes for the end of the year luncheon.

GIG Minutes - General Meeting May 1, 2019

The meeting was called to order by President, Janet Sanders at 1:17pm.   

April 3, 2019 General Meeting Minutes:  Janet called for a motion to approve the minutes as distributed and posted on the GIG website.  Kathy Clinton made the motion to approve and Gwen Armstrong seconded the motion.  The minutes were approved. 

Senior Men’s Thank You:  50-50 raffle prizes and gifts were distributed to our Senior Men Players.  Janet expressed our sincere appreciation for their participation in our event.

New Business:   Linda Yopp asked that we address our current Club Championship rule requiring members to have played in a minimum of 10 games prior to the Championship.  She suggested we waive that requirement for 5+ year members.  Mary Decker moved we postpone a decision until the June meeting

2019 Budget - Kathy distributed and presented a proposed budget.  Peggy Rook moved we approve this budget and Helen Knowles seconded the motion.  The Budget was approved.   Budget Summary:  (See email for budget numbers.)

Birthday and Sunshine Updates – November 2018 thru April 2019 Birthday’s were recognized.  Sue Trizila asked that when a member advises the board of any member’s illness ask if the member is OK with this information being shared with the general membership.   

 2019 New Rules:  Peggy Rook pointed out the new rules are included in the 2019 Directory.  

Texas Women’s Amateur Golf Association – Peggy Rook advised our membership of the details related to the 2019 TWAGA event.  The signup sheet with detailed event information will be posted in the PH Lady’s Locker Room.

 GIG Minutes - General Meeting October 3, 2018

The meeting was called to order by President Cindy Henry at 1:55 PM. Cindy called for a motion to approve the minutes from the September 5th meeting as posted on the web.  Mary Scherr made the motion to approve the minutes and Barb Solly seconded the motion.  The minutes were approved.

Kathy Clinton gave the treasurers report.

Edie Czajkowski announced the names of members celebrating birthdays in October.  She also asked the members to remember Carol MacDonald in their prayers as Carol had suffered a setback in her recovery from a stroke.

Mary Decker reported no new birdie pins were earned during September.

The league Championship is scheduled to resume on October 10th, weather permitting.  It was noted that September handicaps will be used for the second round of play.  Mollie Manning stated that if the course is very wet, lift, clean, and place will be used.  The sand traps will be out of play on the 10th, so players can remove their ball from the sand and drop it behind the trap and continue their shot from there.  You must hit your shot over the trap.

Kathy Clinton said a couple more teams were needed for the couples tournament.  The deadline to sign up was extended to October 5th.  The cost for the tournament is $44.00 per player.  Mulligans and a miracle putt may be purchased for $5.00.  There will also be a raffle for a PGA Gift Card.

Peggy Rook said 47 members have signed up for the end of year luncheon and the deadline to sign up is October 24.

Jan Secord said donations for the luncheon were coming along, but more are needed.

Danny announced the winners of the shotgun, and Kathy Clinton awarded the closest to the hole prizes

Quarter Pot winner was Bettie LeCrone.

There being no more new business Pat Davis made a motion to adjourn the meeting, and it was seconded by Jan Secord.  The meeting was adjourned at 2:12 PM.
