Hi Ladies,

These next two weeks are our championship rounds.  Please read completely through this email so that you don't get yourself disqualified.

  2. You will be disqualified if your scorecard is not added up correctly and if it is not signed AND dated by scorer and attester.

  3. Hole # 17 is considered ground under repair up near the green. It is a free drop one club length nearest point of relief.

  4. If during play you have a rules question, please call Gary in the Pro Shop at 972-941-7600 or Peggy Rook at 214-865-4555 for clarification. Peggy will not be playing Wednesday, so can answer any questions.

  5. There will be no double pars or gimmes.

*Please note, September 25th is the 2nd week of our championship round.  You need to call in before Wednesday to make sure you get signed up.  The sheet is filling up fast, so you don't want to be left out.

*Don't forget to bring your donation for the luncheon if you have one.  There will be a bag to collect the donations.

*If you bring your money for the luncheon, don't just put the check in the envelope.  Be sure to fill out all the information on the signup sheet inside the envelope.

* We still need women to sign up for the Firewheel challenge.  The form will be on the table.

* The sign up sheet for the 4 Person Scramble Tournament (Oct 27th) will be on the table.  You can invite friends, spouses, partners, or another GIG member.  If you don't have someone to play with, don't worry, we will put a team together for you. Just add your name to the list.

September 2, 2019

Hi Ladies,

This week's shotgun will be a scramble.  The start time is 8 a.m.  PLEASE NOTE:  we will be closing the check-in/money collection table 10 minutes prior to the shotgun start.  If you show up at 7:50 or later, you will still need to pay down in the pro shop or have Gary, Jack or Eli punch your card.  This will give the girls time to close up and be ready to tee off on time.  It will also avoid accidental injuries from rushing to get things put away.  If you did not make it in time to sign in, you will need to pay your $5.00 at the general meeting.

Also, the Pro Shop has kindly left a few extra carts upstairs for anyone to use if they need to pay using a credit card or cash.

Attached is the sign up sheet for this week.  PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK to make sure your name has been highlighted to play.  If for some reason you cannot play, please call the Pro Shop and let them know before 7:30 on Wednesday.    You can still call in to sign up for September 11th play day.  The sign up sheets for September 18th will be available on Wednesday.

Remember to bring plenty of water and cold wet towels to help stay cool.  See you Wednesday.

Janet Sanders

Hi Ladies,

Please Remember:  for pace of play, your group needs to keep up with the group in front of you.  If you can't see them, your group needs to pick up the pace!  (Play ready golf.  If your are ready and the player who is behind you isn't, go ahead and play your ball.  DO NOT WAIT FOR HER!)

The sign up sheet is attached.  The temperature isn't  that bad on Wednesday...high of 89.  Hope more of you will sign up.

Don't forget to bring your gifts for the the luncheon if you have one already.  There will be a box on the table to put your donations in.

Ladies, don't forget that we now can sign up 2 weeks in advance.  You can still sign up for the September 4th shotgun.  Come Wednesday, you will also be able to sign up for September 11th game.  Remember, this year you must have played 5 games to be eligible for the Club Championship on September 18th and 25th.

If anyone had a milestone during the Shotgun on Aug7th (such as a birdie or chip-in), please let Mary Decker know.  She didn't make it to all the tables that day.

Wednesday we will begin collecting donations for the luncheon.  Bettie LeCrone will have a box on the table you may put your donations in.

This Wednesday's game is TEE TO THE GREEN:  Keep track of putts.  No gimmies.  Gross minus PUTTS! (not handicap).

Ladies, don't forget that we now can sign up 2 weeks in advance.  Wednesday we can still sign up for the August 28th play date.  However, Wednesday afternoon, any open spaces will be available to the men.  This was an agreement we made with the Pro Shot this year....if we make the signup 2 weeks in advance instead of 1, they can sign up men after the 2nd week.  This is a public course, so they need to try to fill up all the slots.  This coming Wednesday, you may also sign up for the September 4th shotgun.

It will be a hot play day, so bring extra water and cold wet towels help.

Hey everyone,

We would love for everyone to try and make the shotgun this week.  Ina Guttormson is celebrating her 90th birthday this month.  We will have a birthday cake to help her celebrate.

Also, we are having a raffle drawing for a golf shirt and possibly a few other things, so bring a little extra money.  We need to make up some money lost due to rain outs.  Your participation in the shotguns will help support our end of the year luncheon and prize monies.

Also, 2 names will be drawn for free lunches Wednesday.  We will draw names before we start our shotgun.  Good luck!

Our shotgun this week is a Two Best Ball Shamble.  Each player tees off; best shot is chosen.  All players play their own ball from that location continuing to play their own ball until all players have completed the hole.  Keep all scores and record 2 BEST NET SCORES PER HOLE.  Use 2 drives per person.  Please remember, to speed up play, if your score will not be one of the 2 best scores for that hole, then please pick up your ball.

Please note, a copy of those who have signed up for the shotgun is attached see email for copy of sign up sheet).  Your name will be high-lighted if you are signed up.  Call the Pro Shot if you need your name highlighted or taken off.

See you all Wednesday!

Hello GIG Members,

Please check under “Special Announcement for information regarding The Frisco Lakes Women’s Golf Association “2019 Invitational Tournament”.  The date is Wednesday, September 25, 2019.

July 21, 2019

NO UPDATE TO WEB UNTIL JULY 30TH. PLEASE CHECK EMAILS FOR MESSAGES FROM THE PRESIDENT.

July 16, 2019

Ladies:

It was brought to my attention that quite a few people signed up to play last week, but did not show up.

Poor Gary was pulling his hair out trying to rearrange tee times for those that did show up and had no one to play with.  PLEASE call the pro shop and cancel if you cannot make it.  Also, if you are running late, let them know you are on the way.

Now that I am sending out the sign up sheets, please double check to see if your name is on it.  Also check to be sure that you are not listed on two different tee times (someone else may have automatically signed you up).

Please be considerate of the Pro Shop and your fellow golfers by calling at least 30 minutes prior to your tee time if you can not play.

Thank you,

Janet Sanders, President

July 15, 2019

Hi Girls,

A suggestion was made asking if I would include the sign up sheet with the weekly update.  Several of us forget what time we had signed up, or  even if we had signed up at all.  I will start adding this weekly.  Great suggestion, Nan!  The attachment was taken this morning around 11:45 am (Monday).  Please note, since we can sign up 2 weeks in advance, non league members can also sign up now for Wednesday.  Some of the spaces may be full by now, so do not wait too long if you haven't signed up.

The game of the week will be "Strike Three".  Discard worst 3 scores at end of the round.

We have several new members this year.  If you are playing with one of them, please help them when turning in their scores including the Ringer book.  If you are a new member and don't know about the ringer book, please ask for help.  Someone will be able to help out.  And as always, the game of the day is an option.  You do not  have to play it.  You can just play a regular round of golf for your handicap average.  However, this week's game is also a regular game.

See you Wednesday,

Janet Sanders, President

July 8, 2019

Good Morning Ladies,

This week we are playing Five of Clubs.  You are only allowed to use 5 clubs (and have only 5 clubs in for bag) for the round.  So be sure to leave the rest of your clubs in the car.    You can still sign up for July 17th play date.  Come Wednesday, you can sign up for July 24th play day also.  Remember, if you aren't playing on Wednesday, you need to call in after 10 am to sign up.

Looking forward to seeing everyone Wednesday.

Janet Sanders

July 1, 2019

Hi Ladies,

This week is our shotgun.  It will be a Scramble.  Everyone tees off at 8 am.  Please arrive by 7:30 in order that we start on time.  Wednesday you can still sign up for next week's game:  Five of Clubs.  Any tee times open after 12 will be open to the public.  If you can't make it to the shotgun, you may call in for a tee time after 10 am.  Wednesday you will also be able to sign up for July 17th play day.

A little rain is in the forecast, but looks promising.

Hope to see you all Wednesday.  Have a fun and relaxing 4th of July!

Hope to see you all Wednesday.

June 16, 2019

Hi Ladies,

This week's game is EVEN HOLES.  Add your even holes and subtract 1/2 of your handicap.  Looks like rain may still be in our forecast this week.  Here's hoping it will avoid us.

Wednesday you may start signing up for the July 3rd shotgun.  If you haven't signed up for June 26th play day, you may still do so. Please do not call Wednesday before 10 a.m. to sign up.  The Pro Shop is very busy checking us in.

Ladies,

There will be a slight change to signing up for play dates.  It will still be 2 weeks in advance.  However, the men in the Pro Shop are very busy with check-ins Wednesday mornings. Steve has asked that if you are not playing golf at Pecan Hollow Wednesday mornings, you need to wait until after 10 am to call in for a tee time.  Girls that are playing that morning can go ahead and sign up when they check in.

Please respect their wishes.

Thank you,

Janet Sanders

June 9, 2019

Hello ladies,

This week's play day is the Flag Tournament.  Be sure to wear your Red White and Blue.

For the flag tournament you will receive a flag with a number that is Par 71 plus 50% of your handicap.  Keep track of all strokes.  NO GIMMIES OR DOUBLE PARS!  When your score reaches the number on your flag, place your flag at that spot.  If in a hazard, in a bunker, or in the rough, please place flag in fairway (nearest to the cart path side) where your ball comes to rest.  On the green, please place your flag nearest the edge of the green where your ball comes to rest.  If you hole your ball, place your flag at the next tee box. You must exchange scorecards or be disqualified.

Detailed rules will be printed and left at the Pro shot for you to carry with you Wednesday!  (One per cart, please.

On holes 16, 17, and 18, if you are on these greens, there will be a marker and tape measure to measure the distant your ball is to the hole.  Record your name and the distant on the marker, and place your flag by the marker.

For those of you who have not established a handicap, you will not be able to play the flag tournament.  Just play a regular game of low net, and record that in the books at the end of your game.

Wednesday, you can still sign up for the June 19th game (EVEN Holes) and June 26th (Low Net)

The board has moved the Fun Match Play to the October 2nd Shotgun.  Please note the change in your directory.

Looks like the weather will be nice for a change.  No Rain!  Yay!

See you all Wednesday,

Janet Sanders

Hi Ladies

It is that time again-time to nominate officers for the 2020 season.

The success of Gals in Golf depends on the members. And it depends on those members to take part in leading the group. This is your opportunity to be one of those leaders so how about stepping up and joining the board of directors?  It's fun, it's rewarding, and you get to meet and work with great people.

A list of all the positions is on Pages 32 and 33 of the directory.  Which one appeals to you? Which one is best suited for your unique talents?  Would you be willing to step up and lend your ideas to the future success of Gals In Golf?   We hope so and we are waiting for your call to one of the following:

Jan Secord - 972-517-7860

Linda Yopp - 972-424-4755 or 214-395-6690

Mary Scherr - 214-673-5342

Or maybe you know someone you think would be a great addition to the Board-then place that person's name in nomination.

Please notify the committee by JULY 10TH of your interest in serving on the board.

Thank you for your input.

Good Morning Gals,

Finally, we have a Wednesday with no chance of rain.

Remember, you have up until Wednesday at noon to sign up for May 22nd play date.  After that it will be opened to the pubic.   Starting Wednesday you will be able to sign up for the May 29th game.

May 11, 2019

GIG Members,

At the May 1st general meeting, one of our members asked to change the number of games needed to qualify for the Club Championship to zero for any person who has been a member for more than 5 years.

Since the qualification for the Club Championship is not in the By-Laws, a vote by the general membership is not required.  The board met to discuss this suggestion.

The board feels strongly that each member of Gals in Golf should support the league by playing golf at Pecan Hollow Golf course.  The staff at Pecan Hollow are instrumental in supporting our league and we should reciprocate their support by playing as much golf as we can.

We have decided to leave the qualification for the Club Championship at 10 play-day games.  We will adjust that number as needed due to golf course closures (due to weather, etc.) on a year by year basis.  The president will announce by early July the adjusted number of play-day games needed.  We will also have at the July general meeting a list showing the number of game credits that have been earned by each member.

In addition, we discussed moving the Club Championship to the 1st two weeks in October beginning in 2020.  This will allow more time to qualify.

Also, we agreed to give a play-day credit for each member representing Gals in Golf who sign up and play in any of the Multi-Club Exchanges as listed in the directory.  In order to receive credit, we will verify with the Exchange Coordinator those who signed up through GIG and actually played the exchange.

Thank you,

Janet Sanders

May 6, 2019

If we do play Wednesday, and you have to cancel, please be considerate and call the Pro Shop as soon as you canThe earlier the better.  The Pro shop has to re-assign the teams, which takes time.

Good Morning,

This Wednesday we will hopefully have our first shotgun.  Right now a early morning thunderstorm is suppose to roll through when we wake up.  I am hoping it will be through by the time we start.  The rest of the day looks like sunshine.

Just a reminder, shotguns are what helps pays for our prize monies at the end of the year.  Your participation is greatly needed.  They are a fun day, too!  I have attached a list of who has signed up for Wednesday's shotgun.  Everyone please check it.  If you signed up, your name is highlighted in yellow.  If your name should be highlighted, or shouldn't be highlighted, please call the pro shop and have them add or delete you.  Pro Shop # is 972-941-7600.

Also, Linda Long will be at the shotgun to take pictures of any new member for the directory.  If you don't like your current picture, she can also take new pictures for anyone.

Meet and Greet for February is listed under Special Announcements.

January 20, 2019

Hello everyone,

I hope everyone had a great holiday season.  It is time to get back into the swing of things with golf.

Attached are 2 forms for you to complete.  The application form will need to be completed and returned to Kathy Clinton with your payment.  Her information is on the application.

I have also attached a signup sheet for volunteers.  I would like for everyone to take the time and sign up for at least one committee.  This is your club and we need your participation to make this a successful year.  Please return the volunteer sheet to me.  My information is at the bottom of the attachment.

Looking forward to a fun year!

Janet Sanders, President
